In honour of deviantART's 14th birthday, I will be sharing a bit about my deviantART story. I have been here for four years, and it feels like it has gone by so quickly. Four years ago an interest for photographing skies emerged inside of me, for reasons that I cannot quite recall. Perhaps it was due to the colours of the sky, the shapes of the clouds or the overwhelming beauty of a sunset, but nonetheless, I began a new fascination and hobby. I began photographing so that I would have something tangible to remember the ephemeral moments of a sunset; trying to make a memory tangible is not quite easy, but I wanted to keep some sort of permanent reminder of what my eyes had witnessed in that specific moment of time in nature. Of course, this was not made easier by the camera I had (poor quality), but I persisted nonetheless. The skies and nature were my first interests in photography, and still continue to be, but with time I dabbled in areas such as macro, still life, and conceptual work, as I was being inspired by the multitude of talented artists here on the site. I began this hobby very much an amateur, though with time I have learned of many techniques, tips, and tricks on how to better my photography. It is not until this year that I became very active with my artwork on the site. I still consider myself a beginner, and continue to hone the skills for this endeavour of mine. I like to think of my photographs as ones that create a world in which I would enjoy residing in, my ephemeral escapes.
The following will be a short timeline of my work throughout these years.
The above is the very first photograph I ever published on deviantART. There are many things that could have been done better in this photograph (even the quality), but I still like to keep it as a reminder of how far I have come in this short time. We all have to start somewhere; it doesn't matter where, as long as we progress.
The above is one of the first nature photographs that I published. It is one of my favourites because despite the quality of my camera, I still managed to capture some beautiful bokeh and depth of field.
The above is one of my macro shots, published in the beginning of when I became interested in this type of photography. I love water droplets! I enjoyed the image that I captured in the main droplet of this shot.
The above work is one of my conceptual pieces. I am quite fond of this one due to its message, colour scheme, and bokeh.
This last work here is my latest, and I have it here to place my work in perspective. Although it is the newest, it is one of my absolute favourites. I feel that with each and every work that I have uploaded, I have made some progress. I was SO HAPPY to see that this particular one made it onto the front page of deviantART's popular in eight hours. That is the first time for me!
I feel that the reflection of my time here is beneficial, as it shows that with time and work, progress is possible. I still do not have the best skills or the best camera, but I have learned to utilize what I do have to the best of my abilities. I hope to continue with photography and improve upon it in the future.
I wish you all lots of creativity! HAPPY BIRTHDAY dA!
